Thanks for answering. Do they go broody?

From what I’ve heard that’s been mostly bred out but some types of quail might be less domesticated and still have that instinct. The Coturnix though I think it’s mostly gone but sometimes they do and I think the Buttons are said to go broody more often than Cots.

Okay, all this talk about quail. How hard are they to keep? How long do they lay? Do they lay through winter? How is something so small worth butchering? What kind of housing? How big are predator issues with them? We have TONS of critters from possums and skunks, bobcats and foxes, to cougars and bears.

I do love those purdy eggs they lay.
Has I known about quail before I got chickens I may not have gotten chickens.
:oops::oops::oops:

Quail are easy peasy.
They do not require a lot of room, nothin near what a chicken needs.
I am not a builder of things. I built quail cages all by myself.
Kiki's Quail Cage Build

They lay eggs daily.
IF you handle them daily from hatch they can be the sweetest little birds ever.
Home grown quail meat is the best meat I have even eaten.
(I've not yet raised meat birds.)

My quail don't free range so I don't worry about predators, my cages are predator proof.

One 50 pound bag of food has fed 22 quail for four full weeks so far and it is not empty. I probably have a good week plus still left in the bag.
What am I missing?

This was pretty much my experience with them. Unfortunately, I had awful problems with them laying twice a day and nothing I tried helped. Cots only need about 12 to 14 hours of light. I had 5 hens and I was over run with eggs.
