The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

I have some very sad news to report. The parents of my Cemanis were killed by a raccoon last night. In hindsight it doesn’t really surprise me in the least. The owner lives next to the Rio Grande River & his coop was extremely vulnerable. I felt like saying something but it just wasn’t my place to do so. A very sad day! The good news is he is selling me the remaining 7 so my gene pool will double in size.

That is very sad news for him, Blue Eager. Good news for you, though.

I took some quick pictures after a brooder clean out tonight. 20180416_233518.jpg 20180416_233150.jpg 20180416_233002.jpg 20180416_232934.jpg 20180416_232722.jpg 20180416_232700.jpg 20180416_232636.jpg 20180416_232549.jpg

This one is my favorite. I've named him Dahmer.

Tiegrsi, my favorite birds before the Cemanis were Blue & Lavender Amaraucana’s. Now they take a back seat to my Cemanis. I think they are the neatest birds. Yours are beautiful & I can see why Dahmer is your favorite. Alejandro is mine.

How old are your Cemanis?

The firzt couple of weeks it seemed like yhey were barely growing. After week 4 they took off by leaps and bounds. In the last week and a half I have had to change their leg bands TWICE, and I leave extra room for growth when I put them on, so...plus they're eating more than I expected. The 9 of them a full scoop of food and then some daily. I think it's a 3 qt scoop.

Our trio is 5 months old now and the hens started laying eggs this month :yesss: Our roo is turning out to be a real gentleman. He does a wing dance for his hens, tidbits to them when he finds good things to eat, and growls to warn them when he senses danger. His crow has improved greatly and he even has a little bit of a trill in the middle. They are sweet birds with gentle personalities.

I know what you mean. Week 2 showed mostly down feathers. Tomorrow will be week 3. Their Black feathers are starting to fill in more aggressively. It looks kind of strange with all the dots of down clinging on for dear life. Their long necks have been noticeable from day one but they are even more pronounced now. Especially when they are lying belly down with necks fully extended.
