The coyotes are back

A couple weeks ago, I got up after daylight and a bit later heard the chickens making all kinds of racket.
Stepped outside to look and there was a coyote between 2 coops staring at me.
They wake us up at night with their howling and screaming right across the road from our house.
I go out and clap real loud (2 - 2x4 slapped together works too) and they run off.

What good is the trail cam if a predator attacks your flock?
I am just asking, what is the purpose of the trail cam?

I can see what's going on around my coop during the night and it will take them more then one night to break into my run and then coop

Has anyone tried to set up a motion detector system that either makes a noise and/or turns on lights when it is activated?

Provides insight into how better to apply antipredator measures. Like where to put trap.

I wanted some LED motion sensor lights but my parents thought it would only be a matter of time before they realized that the lights won't harm them and they won't be afraid

I suspected the same behavior.
I think a random noise triggered by the motion detector would help deter.
