The Dorking Breeders thread

Hello every one byc member here new to this thread was wondering if anyone here was a breeder and had some chicks to sale? Me and a few breeder friends of mine have tasked me with locating and purchasing some of these beautiful birds preferably located in or near Indiana for personal pick up

Sandhill Preservation Center was sold out for the entire season for individual colors when their 2016 catalogue came out last month, but you could still buy mixed assortments of Dorkings.

The Livestock Conservancy has a list of small, private breeders around the country, but you'd need to check their directory and contact each person to see what is available. Some of their members opt to be publicly listed on the website or you can join the Conservancy for a complete list of breeders.

Dick Horstman's Poultry, a very small SOP hatchery, has Red Dorkings listed on his website, but I've not had any contact with him and don't know what his status is.

Murray McMurray is a very large, commercial hatchery and offers Silver Gray Dorkings. They are not SOP birds, but I'll be buying 25 of their cockerels this spring as a control group for a personal study of SOP White Dorking capons. I've bought birds from them for 35 years and have always gotten healthy birds and excellent service.

I don't know how likely it is you'll find what you want within driving distance, so it might require shipping. Although you are in the midwest which probably has better availability than we do here in the South. Best of luck.

I've driven as far as Florida to pick up birds so I hope 1000 mile radius will turn up some reasonable breeder dorkings

Could you pick me up a gallon of milk in Canada and drop it off here in Georgia on your way home... and maybe a loaf of bread.
