The fish tank thread.

When I start a new tank I take a handful or two of gravel from an established tank as well as a dirty plastic plant, the new tank is almost instantly cycled, I also to this to my pond when I fire it up in the spring, I don't get an algae bloom anymore, instantly clear water, the tank sits for a day to allow and dissolved solids to settled than I add my fish. You won't be able to keep any bacteria alive in the brown water you saved and it will start to stink as the bacteria die.

Lol. Now I have another question! Both of my female guppies are squared off and I only have one breeder box. I put the divider thing in and have the baby guppies on the bottom. How can I divide the top section into two parts so I can have both females in? Because I am afraid that when one gives birth the other will eat them before they fall through to the bottom.

Sorry I have so many questions. I am very clearly new to fish keeping.

Some boxes come with a divider, otherwise I'm not sure how you would make one for a premature item.

Turns out my 10 gal is 15-20 gallons. And I just bought a 40 gal tank. Moving everybody in once I get a heater powerful enough

I'll second that. Started with a 10 gallon, then 29 gallon, then 55 gallon and currently a 300 gallon. Still want more.

We were worried about that also so we put a beam and floor jacks under the tank.
