The Imported English Jubilee Orpington Thread

Pics
@mollybuck and all others that are interested, I have some new pictures.

2 older hens, left : blue laced gold x jubilee, right : splash x jubilee.

3 chicks out of blue laced gold x jubilee, the chick with the lightest blue is a hen, the black marked chick is a cockerel, still have my doubts about the darker blue one.

3 light colored blue hens.

2 darker colored blue hens that are taking longer to get their first feathers.

The remaining 3 out of 5 boys. One of them is the same age as the hens on the first picture.

Hope to see some pictures of your chicks @mollybuck !

@mollybuck

This is the first year I made this cross. Only thoughts and expectations, no experience yet.
So far, the chicks out of jubilee x splash appear to be mainly blue with some red accents in the chest.
I expect more and more red coming through as they mature, but this first year they should be more blue than red.

As for the cross with the blue laced golden hen...
Jubilee, red porcelain, millefleur or whatever the term is overseas can be based on wheaten (yellow-reddish down) or on e^b/e^b (chipmunk stripes on the back of day-old chicks). I am no specialist when it comes to genetics, just an observant listener/reader.
Blue laced red/gold Wyandottes are e^b/e^b so that's already a good base. The big difference in these 2 colors (jubilee and BLR) is the Pg + Ml genes that make the laced birds show their lacing. Also columbia plays an important role in the lacing pattern but jubilees have the same columbia gene so that's a good thing.
So conclusion : there isn't that much difference between these 2 colors.
Therefore a blue laced golden hen ended up being a good "tool" to replace the black with blue markings on my jubilee Wyandottes.

Playing with the calculator proved to be a good method to understand the basic stuff of color genetics.
