The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

photo you shared on the "chicken decor" thread. You should post it here too!

Nope, one thread of embarrassment is enough :lau.
Congrats on the mile mark for the course's season:)

time too add a new dog
Yep, sounds like it is. Wish Bear could train the newbie.

could very well be a fox

That's what I thought, but am thankful my gals live in confinement so I don't have to deal with the predators.

just get one that doesn't eat chickens.
X2 - and one that doesn't kill them for fun.

Things are going fairly well with integrating the newbies to the elders. Although DH does most of the chore, I was off a few days and had to sit on our hot deck for distant supervision ( coop is shadier and cooler) ...started wondering why my chickens get an outdoor fan and I had to swelter in the heat...even a table umbrella didn't help....

So got me an outdoor fan for the deck....now I won't melt while they play in the shade:)

The newbies are a riot - wish I had several episodes on film. They are acrobats = 4 Ninja-Circus-Chicks. It is amazing that they tolerate some pecks and just run, jump or sneak back to what they want to do. IMO they are braver than the BO or BR's were at their age.

I know y'all have seen it before, so won't bore you with details.

Yes, we want photos when you get a puppy DMC! German Shepherds are gorgeous dogs and very cute puppies.

Our daughter announced the other day she wanted an Old English Sheepdog! All I could think was "All that HAIR"! I have steered her towards wanting a Rough Coated Collie instead. But it'll be a long road to get one involving lots of saving, so it'll be interesting to see if she sticks with it.
I have groomed rough collies, not much better than the sheepdog for coat care. The sheepdog at least does better being shaved or trimmed down.

I don't mind the brushing but the length of the sheepdog's coat made me think it would matt up constantly and get everything stuck in it (I remember how bad my Mum's Persian cat was for getting matted up). I can't imagine how muddy it would get in our current backyard too being hairy everywhere! I look enough like a swamp monster by the time I've done my rounds!

You can get smooth collies but they don't look quite as sweet without all that body fluff. She may well change her mind but we'll see.

I had a German shepherd as a kid, she was a great dog and companion. Please share photos if you get one, I am always in withdrawal from puppies. It has been 2 years since my last puppy, I get puppy fever yearly, but I am topped at at 5 dogs, doesn't stop the want though. :)

We are getting a girl Shepherd puppy this weekend. The guy has 3 girls left and will bring all to give us our choice. He's 2 hours from here but he's in the area quite often so we only have to go about 30 miles to hook up with him. I will post a picture...or more when we get her:wee

We like chicken talk:)

Good morning!

DMC, a new puppy...how exciting! Looking forward to lots of pictures and stories.

Sunflour, tell all the chick stories you want! Wish I could spend more time with mine but that will have to wait a bit longer. As it is, they recognize my car when I pull up (not sure if it's the look or the sound of the car) and come running up to the run fence to wait for a treat.

Anyone know when Blooie gets back from her cruise?

Yesterday was a weird day at the course. We ended up short 3 people (a cook had badly cut himself the day before, 1 girl was only there an hour then went home sick and the bartender got a call her friend was killed in a car wreck). The place was almost deserted most the day, then 1/2 the town turned out all at once for dinner so the day ended up crazy. Glad to see that day over with.

My oldest son is coming back for a visit! He'll be here sometime next week...hope he doesn't mind the disaster zone that passes as my house.

You all have a great day, chat with you later!
