The Sizzle Thread!

It’s my understanding but I’m new to this is you want to keep breeding sizzle to Silkie the goal is to keep all the Silkie traits except feather type. So Silkie roo over sizzle hens or sizzle roo over Silkie hens. What I plan on doing is just having 1-2 sizzle hens that are good Silkie type but have smooth feather with the rest of my Silkie flock. When you introduce another breed they are considered mixes for many generations (I think 10+) out culling hard until you are getting consistent Silkie traits with different feather type. I was going to go that route but decided to go with eggs from a breeder that was already doing it. I don’t have the room to take on that kind of project and I don’t know enough about genetics, you also can’t put 2 frizzle together it will give you a frazzle These genetics cause weak feathers that break off and internal deformities.

We are excited to see your post and your blog. What beautiful chickens!
My daughter is entering her Sizzle Cockerel and Smooth Sizzle Pullet in the county fair (4H).
She will be using her beloved Cockerel for Showmanship and is trying to figure out the best answer when the judge asks her to describe her chicken. Can you help? HE is pictured here (approx 6 months old).
She is thinking, "Bantam, Bearded, Feather Legged, Partridge (Sizzle or Silkie) Cockerel with Frizzled Feathers".
We have your Sizzle Breed Information Card saved to put on her pens as well. Thank you to any w advice about showing this cutie!!!

Hi, I’m new to the silkie world and just got a few chicks that the breeder said might be sizzle. She also had some salmon faverolles with the silkies as well. Do these looks like hybrids or sizzles? Are their feathers going to be curly or straight?

They both have black skin, five toes, and one has the dome skull. They are growing much larger in size than my other chicks and push the smaller ones out of the food dish.

I ended up with 2 sizzles. I have no idea how to sex them. The black on I thought was attempting to crow once but then a few days later my cockerel did the drop wing dance around it. Usually by 12 weeks I can pick out the cockerels in my Silkies.

Hi there, this is my first post.

My kids and I hatched some eggs and now have 2 week old cute chicks for pets. The parents are either Frizzle, Silkie or Araucana. I just wanted to know your thoughts on the ones in the photos, are they sizzles?

The first one has 5 toes. The second one has 5 toes, black skin and a small amount of feathers on lower legs and the 3rd has only 4 toes but has black skin and a tiny amount of feathers on its lower legs. They all have frizzles as far as I know.
