I looked for a thread for new chicken people gushing about their new fluffballs, but didn't find one. If there is one, direct me to it and I'll gush there.
I ordered fifteen from Cackle, and they sent one extra of each breed! The breeds are common, but I figure with me being a noob, I'd do better to begin with hardy birds. So: Black Australorp, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Delaware, and Speckled Sussex.

Fifteen was too many (Let alone twenty!), but I didn't want to pay a small order fee--I can maybe sell a few at POL later.

They'll do a couple nights in the house (unless my dog's head explodes--she wants in there so bad, has paced and cried all day, even though I let her see them, closely supervised.

They're slowly understanding the MHP, eating and drinking, napping and such. One had a poopy bottom--I don't think it was pasty butt yet, but headed there. I'll have to check them all as the afternoon wears on.

Love those little peeps! I have chick envy! I want more SO bad and my hubby is constantly reminding me that I don't have room for more right now. Thankfully I sweet-talked him into building me a bigger coop. Can't wait until next spring!!!

I could sit and watch them for hours.

But between my dog pacing and crying just outside the door, and the list of chores I'm ignoring, I should get off my fanny and, well, tend to mundane life.

I have a few I'm thinking might be cockerels--one little australorp has the BOOFIEST hair do. No Polish boofy, but like he has tiny fuzzy hackles.

One more with poo on her butt, but it was wet poo, not dried or pasted. I'll be sure everybody goes to bed tonight with clean tushes.

I have a video, but don't know how to include it here. Guess I'll figure it out in the morning. Chicks have had a little wet mash, seemed to love it. And they ARE getting the hang of the MHP, since I raised the front edge just a little. They're zooming all over their pen!
