interesting, I already mentioned these flaws a month ago. Glad my ignored opinion is turning out to be exactly as I suspected but jesus did you see the map of how many stores got switched to the new system?
All they need is additional thermostatically controlled heat and they would be better than what they used to have. But as in their statement the new systems only use radiant heat but you see on the video the friend buying one to test and having to use a blanket to retain heat.

Here this is the thread I remember where it was already discussed extensively https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...k-of-tractor-supply’s-new-chick-bins.1446863/

Hopefully next year they take action, and try to improve on it.

I follow this guy on Youtube. I don't know if I agree with his sentiments. Those types of brooders are usually very safe and are fine if used correctly. One thing I've noticed in the video is that the heating element seems to be pretty high up for tiny chicks. In some types of plate heaters, you can lower the plates. They're designed so they won't burn the chicks, so if they touch them, they are unlikely to be hurt.

Feed store chicks and ducklings usually don't get the best care anyway. They need to be more attentive to situations where chicks could get cold or crushed.

Not good. I was the Tractor Supply on Buckeye, AZ today. I was there to buy Equine Senior and on my way to the register I stopped to look at the chicks. It’s horrible, every chick in the stacked brooder had pasty butt really extremely bad! There was an store worker cleaning the plastic on the brooder. I advised her about the chicks condition also of the one dead that was being trampled on, flat! I asked to speak to the store manager. I informed the store manager, Mark, that the chicks were not being taking care of because every single chick had extreme pasty butt. There must be something wrong with these brooder because I have never seen TSC chicks look this way. The store manager said he will get someone to take care of them. I can’t believe no one working there knew this already!!! I purchased 6 just to try to save their lives. I took them home and cleaned them up and they are now under a heat lamp sleeping. If anyone is in the Buckeye area please go by and take a look. Please let them know this isn’t right.

I signed the petition and stopped by our local TSC to check on the chicks. The chicks were active and healthy. They had plenty of clean food and water, appeared comfortable with the temperature setting, and there were no pasty butts to be seen. The employees did hover nearby as I inspected the brooder, so they must be on high alert due to all the negative publicity.

I was happy to see that, at least locally, the chicks are being well cared for in the new brooders.
