We have 2 17 week old barred rocks and 3 Rhode Island reds all the same age. This morning when I went to clean the coop we found two eggs! I wasn’t expecting them quite yet, but it was awesome being my sons second bday. My kids were screaming with excitement. I am almost positive I know which two it is due to them squatting when I am near, and I saw one RIR exit the nest box. The other egg that was in a different box I believe came from my barred rock that developed the quickest.

No point to this other than sharing excitement that others on here may relate to!

My first egg came at 18 weeks and was 25 grams the joy of finding your fist egg is undescribable!
Yes absolutely! I grew up around chickens my entire life, but now being the chicken keeper and parent in the situation is just so cool. We love our birds and I love the lessons it’s teaching my boys daily.

It really was a party in the coop this morning 😆
