What breed laid the first egg for you?

Cool. I've never owned Silkies. Glad she is a good little layer. Has she gone broody yet? I think that's why I don't have them. I have read they go broody alot. Although, every year in Spring, one of hens goes broody....lol! I've allowed two hens to hatch out eggs. It was cool.

She did go broody about a month ago and I let her hatch 3 of her own eggs. She's being a good mum.

How cute! My current flock of different breeds were all hatched here by a broody RIR by in May. I kept 7 girls.

Pretty flock! I love having different breeds. I have nine girls and a rooster plus my silkies babies. I swore no more than six. Chicken math

They are actually in different age groups. Ameraucana, Marans, Blue Orpingtons, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Welsummers, Leghorns, and I have a BSL and a RSL.

All beautiful breeds. The eggs must be a rainbow of colors.

I am still waiting on my welsummers to lay and my marans and amercaucanas are only a few weeks old. But I can not wait til they are all laying.

First to lay was silver cuckoo marans at 18weeks 4 days - she stopped after 2 weeks and I thought she was sick, just started to lay again after 2.5 months and I think she was going through a molt. Second was dominique at 20 weeks. Third black jersey giant at 23-4 weeks and last was cream legbar At 26 weeks I think - she is my best layer so far, only skips a day every 12 days or so
