my lighter eggs seem to hatch better. the extra dark are hard for me. I think it is just the marans eggs are more difficult. Hatch RIR/splash marans eggs they pop out like popcorn. Cute little horse poop spreaders. Plus eggs.

Update:Hey all,
I got my Wheatens yesterday and I thought I'd share my joy. We got them from a breeder who got hers directly from Bev Davis and has even beat out Bev in some shows here in Florida. Who knows if the last part is true, but we're just happy to have our chicks.
We ended up with 9 all total. 7 of them are a week old, one of these 7 is possibly a roo (I hope only one!) and also one of these is lame with a broken toe. (We were given her for free so we thought we'd take her and see how she does and hope for the best).
Now the other two are a bit over 2 weeks old. One of these is a pullet and one a roo. I think they are beautiful.
Here's the little ones. Can you spot the suspected male? (Probably not cause I think he's in the back)

These are the older ones. No trouble spotting the roo here! Look at the tail of the female here (in the back) - Does it look blue-ish to you? Good eye!

The roo with his very rooster-ish comb. We named him Caesar. The lady behind him we named Brigitte.
We are on day two with them and we noticed one of them had passed a bit of bloody poo. We are administering Corid per instructions found here at backyard chickens and I think they'll be ok.
Side note:
The Marans are sharing the brooder with a few 5 day old Opringtons a neighbor brought by that she picked up at a yard sale cause she heard "that you guys liked chickens!" (Seriously? who brings someone animals without asking if they want them first?) Guess I have to make that hen house a bit bigger than I planned.
not the ones i have ther active . free rangers. chicks are dare devilsDo wheatens seem more Lethargic than chicks of other breeds?
I'm beginning to think they're victims of inbreeding or something - Even the bigger male just sits there even when I go to pick him up.
Tell me everything's ok.
