I find that the chickens themselves don't smell. Since they preen they are clean. The real issue with the smell is when their coop isn't cleaned. As long as you are responsible about that, I don't have a problem.

We put new shavings in our coop once in a while. Our brooder smells to high heavens!I find that the chickens themselves don't smell. Since they preen they are clean. The real issue with the smell is when their coop isn't cleaned. As long as you are responsible about that, I don't have a problem.
Here are my Pros Vs. Cons
Pros: All of the above mentioned. Plus the fact they give me an excuse to spend time with my family at the Poultry Auction!
Cons: Only non chicken love people have these!
Con - so addicting I now have 14,
We only talked about getting three, but I got six,
A month later, I wanted more color in the flock
So I got four more.
Then a month later,
I saw two day old Blue Wyandottes so now I have 12.
Welllll, we didn't want just the two to face the other ten by themselves
so we got 2-4 day olds. Safety in numbers right?
Now I have 14, my family thinks I'm crazy!
DittoIt's a wonderful club to be in. I'll take chicken crazy any day of the week.
