Why have chickens?

I live on a farm and we have had chickens out whole lives. Every time a flock dies off we raise more.

Love my chickens, 4 LF over a year old and 10 10 week old mix chicks, love spending time watching them so comical

Most who find out I have chickens always want to know WHY?

'cause my granddaddy did and I loved to play in the chicken pen…barefooted.
'cause my daddy sold chicken feed.
'cause I bought a magazine that romanticized having pet chickens.
'cause it is our patriotic duty ….an old ad I saw in a book.

I love my chickens.

The only "cons" I have come up with is how hard it is to lose one, whether it's to illness or predator.

And how no matter how many I have, I always want more.

We started with 17, now we have 36 and I want MORE. Lol!
