This tutorial thoroughly helped me hatch my call ducks. I still had less than half survive. I realized that I made the emergency air hole too early on some. It was difficult for me to determine the internal pip. When the air hole is made too early it seemed that it vacuumed sealed the duckling inside the membrane making it impossible for them to penetrate it. Does this sound accurate or did I maybe do something else wrong? I tried to follow the guide to a t. I had several to the point where their heads and upper body were pulled out as instructed and then they died in the incubator that way. I feel quite badly because all of them were moving healthy fertilized eggs until I started this process. I feel like I may have accidentally caused them to suffocate and I would appreciate any more knowledge anyone can bestow upon me, lol. Only five out of 12 survived. All pictured were survivors. Thank you.

Hi. Yeah it's super important to only give a safety hole after they have internally pipped. It's super sad but usually only 50% or less of calls usually survive the actual hatching. Sometimes if they aren't show quality calls they can hatch on their own, but the longer you wait the more chances of things going wrong. My hen ducks help when they are sitting on them, and they still have a lot of death right at the end. Congrats on your 5 ducklings though, they are super cute.
