Basic Backyard Coop, Keep It Simple

Feel this is a more expensive card board box, I embrace the idea just not the full design. Sure its easy and cheap, but really lacks in many departments. For one the ventilation idea seems like an after thought and seems poorly thought out. Ease of design and construction along with cost is awesome. In my humble opinion a roof should be a roof and chickens prefer side angles versus over the top predatory 'surprise'. Checking the nest box seems like a task, clean out...another task. Just leaves me with an over all 'Lets convert my dog house to a chicken box and call it affordable'.
This is a well written and well illustrated article on the construction of a simple box type coop for some bantams. Pragmatism and utility drive the decisions, and on the whole deliver something that could be built by most people, with a few tools, and at little cost, so in terms of its own aims, this is a very successful project. That it is scaled for bantams might be more prominent, rather than an afterthought, but those wishing to build for large fowl could easily follow the steps here and use this for inspiration and guidance.
