My small backyard flock is referred to lovingly by my family as the "Bock Bock Chickens," a phrase coined by my 5 year old daughter. We currently have 5 hens who have just started laying in the past two months. Our first chicken, Tumbleweed, was a stray game hen that wandered up to our suburban house at the end of last summer. I've never heard of a stray chicken before, but who am I to argue with the grand scheme! We added another four chickens after Tumbleweed: Chili Pepper (Rhode Island Red), Mushroom (Silver Laced Wyandotte), Blackberry (Cuckoo Maran), and Sugar (White Leghorn).
They spend the majority of the day pecking the grass and mucking up my patio! But sometimes can be found in the arms of my daughter or laying eggs in a trash bag full of hay!
