I've been dreaming of the day I could have my own acreage since I was a teenager riding and competing in the hunter/jumper ring.
In 1998 I started to help some local rescues with fostering their dogs and helping place them. In 2000 I got my first Border Collie, a black and white female and haven't looked back. Since 1999 I have naturally raised all the dogs that have come into our home.
I decided to give herding a try in 2003 and fell in love with it. Since we can't have our own stock I made deals with local farmers to help them with chores in exchange for meat. And for some they knew how to train/work the dogs so they also taught me what they know. Other than working sheep, the dogs also do agility and in the winter we go skijoring. This year, 2009, we will be venturing into the world of dock diving.
Unfortunately, prices on acreage have kept us from buying but we are still working towards that goal. We may be retired by the time we can afford it, but we will eventually get there. And the dogs will have their sheep at home.
Since joining BYC, I've become addicted to Soapmaking! Thanks to all who have helped my curisosity develop into an obscession.
