welcome to my page and what will probably become known (unofficially) as Desert Moon Farm. i wanted "standing stone farm" but apparently someone beat me to it. in case you're thinking "oh, desert moon, what a cliche" i offer this (a view from my backyard) in response:

actually, maybe i will make it official. a "Desert Moon Farm" logo would look awfully nice on the gate to my driveway. the farm consists of me, my husband, our son, 2 dogs, 6 cats, 30 chickens, 2 ducks, 2 cockatiels, and hopefully someday a horse, goat, geese, hedgehog, who knows?
at , we are devoted to:Desert Moon Farm
 • treating nature as a sacred entity
 • realistic sustainable living
 • supporting endangered livestock breeds
 • creating a protected haven for abandoned and abused creatures
 • education about and involvement with the above goals
first we tried gardening. just one problem - two people from pennsylvania, one of whom has always lived in town and doesn't even like vegetables (gasp!) should not expect a successful gardening endeavor in the high desert of new mexico. we've made a lot of progress since then.
the next big project was a greenhouse attached to the south end of our house. a door enters through the library, which is really cool because i can go wander amongst my books and look out and see green things, even in the winter.
this year, we finished a chicken coop and run, which will attach to the garden (haven't finished that yet), which brings me to...
My Crazy Chicken Idea! (which is what brought me to Backyard Chickens).
