Hi Joan, that's a very good point. Actually you have touched my achilles tendon ;-)
I have a few doubts about ventilation because I fear air flows inside the coop. During my short experience (I started this "chicken thing" just about 1 year ago), most of my chickens got a cold last Winter. One of my bantam roosters (actually my favorite one - the one in my avatar) even stopped singing in the morning for a few weeks. For a couple of times, I had to give them antibiotics. Not quite sure if it was due to air flows inside my old coop.
Going back to your question: I am planning to open a few holes on the side doors and find a way to close them during winter or when it rains. I am just waiting to see if during Summer the coop gets unpleasant smells. Anyway, I would like you folks to share your thought with me about this.

Very handsome coop, with great wood work! I would love to see the interior settings... how many chickens you plan to house there? it looks big ! I dont know about your weather but I think that lack of enough ventilation can be as harmful for their health as extreme cold.

The shelter (the part standing on top of the structure) is 2.5m x 1.25m x 1.25m (W x D x H). It is divided in two parts (1.25m x 125m x 1.25m) and each part will host a rooster and a hen. You can get an idea of the size in the 4th photo above (there is a guy behind the coop trying not to be caught in the photo).
The interiors are not finished yet, but I will post some photos sometime ahead when I finish the chicken run.
Meanwhile I guess I'll have to do something about ventilation. I already have a few ideas ;-)

On ventilation....
I have heard that chickens get frostbite because of there not being enough ventilation. ie: the coop gets damp.
