I got interested in chickens after we visited Fitzgerald, GA a couple of years ago. It's a small town that has free roaming chickens in their downtown area. What a site to see watching a chicken cross the street in the middle of all that concrete. They were so colorful and fun to watch as the roamed around the streets. So we are new to the chicken hobby, but are loving every minute of it. We have 1 Black Australorp (Rascal), 1 Buff Orpington (Sunshine) and 1 Ameraucana (Elizabeth Taylor). Rascal is 19 weeks old and the other two are 15 weeks old. We also had a Black Jersey Giant, but it turned out he was a rooster and had to go back to the farm. We purchased them from the Sumner Byrd Farm in Holly Springs, NC and would highly recommend them. Our set up is still a work in progress as we try to figure things out. I just finished making a waterer from a water jug cooler so they can have fresh ice water available most of the day when it's so hot outside.
