As all chicken owners know, there will always be a time when you have to make the ultimate decision to end your chicken's life. Much like any other animal, chickens can and, most likely will, become ill. This is when you have three choices: Try to heal the sick or injured chicken, let it die on it's own, or perform humane euthanasia.
Trying to heal the sick or injured chicken can be successful, but if it's not, then you've prolonged the situation, if not made it worse.
Letting the chicken die on it's own can be slow and painful, if it's wounded, and it is considered in-humane if it's suffering, to leave it to die on it's own. This is when you have to consider humane euthanasia.
Humane euthanasia is easily performed. It is a simple task, only made difficult by the realization that you are killing something.

We often know when to let go of our beloved pet chickens. It becomes quite apparent when the animal is suffering, and this is when you know that humane euthanasia is a must.
You will, most likely, feel horribly guilty. You will feel as if you have done something terribly wrong. Deep down inside, though, you will know that you have done the right thing.
Signs of when humane euthanasia is necessary are normally when your chicken has lost interest in food, seems to be in pain, has lost weight and seems unhealthy, and when it seems to be fading away in pain.
This is when you know that your biddy needs you to make the right decision. This is how you will know when to end his/her suffering.
