I have two Welsummer hens. They are my first adventure into raising chickens and enjoying fresh eggs. My girls both have a very distinct personality. Murphy, the smaller and quieter of the two, is the leader of the pair. She is more willing to take a risk, will be the first to explore a new area, and is more willing to approach people. Her best friend, Juliette, is the larger (and louder) of the two. Juliette is sure to let me know that the sun will rise soon, and that it is about time for their coop door to be opened. Despite this, she won't actually do much exploring until Murphy has first stepped foot out of the coop. Juliette enjoys following her around and seems to look to Murphy as a guide for whether or not she should be concerned.

I received my girls on Christmas day, so I haven't had them long. Murphy has been a good layer so far, but Juliette has blessed us with only one egg. It was a remarkable egg, however - beautifully dark and speckled. Murphy's eggs are just as lovely, but typically are not as speckled (their color is still a wonderful terra cotta brown).
This is Murphy, and in the second photo, Murphy is checking out some interesting tidbits on the ground. Juliette is looking around.
