This is my first year raising chickens. The coop was not weather proof for our winter, we had to use a heat lamp to get them through the worse of the cold -30c and colder with the wind chill. We have a new house on order that will be insulated. We are waiting for the weather to warm up enough to move their pen. I am going to cover the frame from a canvas covered shed with chicken wire so they can have an open area to scratch around. We have the old trampoline frame from when the kids were small, I am going to cover that with chicken wire as well. The jack pines give shelter and protection from hawks. Their pen and scratch area is a work in progress.
