Having converted an old dog house to a coop about a year ago, I wanted to expand our small urban flock to 3 or 4 instead of the 2 we have now. My first coop (the dog house on a run i built) was tight and nowhere near tall enough for my girls to enjoy. We began looking for coops and none were quite what we wanted. We stumbled upon a playhouse at walmart one day that was on clearance. As you can see below, we made a few modifications and allot of painting. My wife saw another room to decorate so she slowly began adding interior elements while I was slaving away on the outside.

We wanted a "cottage" feel to our coop to match our house and style. I'm very happy with how it turned out and so far the girls are loving the added head room. An automatic door opener is on the way, as soon as that gets here "phase 2" will begin. I will have the door opener and lights inside all solar powered.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks everyone.

[painted the roof with the rubber leak seal paint]

[placed it on a platform and boarded up the windows]

[my wife started to get in on the designing at this point]

[lights were on clearance at Home Depot, they are not solar yet however will provide enough heat to break the chill in the winter]

[almost done]

[added the weather vane and you can see the old coop and run to the right that will be broken down]

[shutters that actually work along with my temporary door until the new one comes in]

[new vs old, no run for this new one as our yard is fenced in and we free range them]

[love the new head room for the girls]
