We got our first chickens in 2012. I thought I'd be fun to post some of the old pictures I'd taken of them.

We picked up 2 wyandottes, 2 barred rocks, 2 RIRs, and 2 Australorps from our local feed store. They were all suposed to be pullets

Here they are all grown up. We name the Australorp hen Nighthawk, the RIRs (or PRs) Megan and Carmel, the rocks Zoe and Eagle, and the wyandottes Ninja and Scaredy Cat. The "Autralorp" (cross) roo we eventually name Jupiter, after we ended a bantam roo named Neptune several years later. Jupiter had to be greater than Neptune, hence the name.

Megan. We ended up getting rid of her because she beat up all of the other hens.

Jupiter as a chick. Already signs of large comb.

Here my sister decided to put him in a harness.

He ended up getting locked in a dog kennel after attacking my mom several times.

Ninja. She is very spunky. Unfortunately she also loves raw eggs.

Zoe. She was my chicken. She has tiny little feathers between her toes.

Nighthawk enjoying her first snow.

Nighthawk showing off just how gorgeous old ladies can still be. She is one of our sweetest birds, both to us and other chickens.

Ninja and Nighthawk helping us clean up our garden.

The old Trio, Ninja, Nighthawk, and Zoe. They are the only ones from our first year that we still have. The other have all been given away/sold for one reason or another (well, mainly so we have more space for more birds). Nighthawk and Ninja are still decent layers despite being older. Zoe on the other hand, ... She just keeps the cockerels in check. They know who's the boss. Her.
