Typical Chicken Math!! Started with 8 hatchery silkies for my "daughter" (haha).... very quickly realized hatchery silkies are VERY cute but some people make them even fluffier and more adorable, so decided my "daughter" (haha) just HAD to have some extra fluff. Went from 8-30 in about 3 months, and that's after I sold about 10!!
Anyways, they are ALL silkies ranging now from about 10 months down to 2 months.... most are not older than six months.... we still have most of the hatchery babies since they are the ones we raised from day old status
The rest are mostly Blue, Lavender, Porcelain, Splash and Buff babies from a couple really great and helpful breeders. All these guys were shipped to me, and knock on wood I had not one problem with shipping.
A few have names, most don't yet cause we are still getting to know them
We are DONE buying birds (unless someone out there has cuckoo silkies for sale.... anyone???) and will hopefully be enjoying broody mamas and chicks later this year. At this point we just have them for fun, but I could certainly see the addiction getting stronger. Luckily we live on 35 acres and these guys all free range during the day with 4 dogs and 2 rabbits that are also free to come and go.... it is really, really neat.
