I was visiting my fiance's grandparents on their farm and noticed just how wonderful their livestock was around the house. They have cows, horses, dogs, and chickens. The chickens are free to roam and there is an abundance of them. That started my itch.

I started talking about getting chickens to have eggs. Then as I planned, my idea of just eggs grew into a project. I had to build my chicken coop, I didn't want to buy one off line because it just wouldn't satisfy my idea of the big picture. I felt the need to build my own coop and raise up my own chicks and go from there. :) .

Two days after I bought the materials, we started on the coop. It took three days to finish building the coop and the run. All that is left is the paint job, but that is on its way too. Now I just can't wait to get my chickens!!

Here are pics of the chicken coop as we built it.

It is a 4x4 design.

The first wall is up!

That is me and my AWESOME help. If it weren't for him, this wouldn't have happened.

I decided that I'd like a slant roof.

Plywood is going up.

The big front door is officially on :).

Day two: the nesting box, the roof, and part of the run.

This is what the end of day two looked like. We even got to add some trim too.

An inside look.

Day three: Finish the run, the trim and the chicken wire.

This is me putting the base exterior gloss paint on. Oh, and Apollo, my dog, decided he'd join me in there. Can you see him?

The run is all finished :)

Here is the coop with almost all of the base coat on and only painting left to finish :).

Here is The coop all painted up. Just have to fill the sand, put a roof over the run, and a saying to the nesting box. :)

I can't wait for my chickens!
