In my limited experience with them they go broody easily and hatch chicks but, do not take kindly to actually rearing them. When laying I expect around 2-3 per week. They are indeed very quiet sounding much like small chattering.

The more brown hen is the mother to all the chicks. Photo isn't great and their leg feathers were broken when I purchased them. All three are gone from predators but, I have one hen's children above.​
