Every week we clean our coops some chicken keepers do it more or less. But twice a year we deep clean our coops. This process takes much longer than your average clean.
This is our coop before the deep clean. The first thing we have to do is scoop all of the shavings out of the coop. We used a shock vac to get any extra shavings and dust our shovels didn’t pick up. This is not necessary but we like to get everything we can out.
The next step is to scrub. I used this long brush to reach every part of the coop and wash down the outside. It worked pretty well.
Next we rinsed the coop down. It was difficult getting the water out of the coop we ended up using the shock vac to suck it all out. I wasn’t able to get a picture of this step.
After we rinsed it all down we let it dry for about an hour then put diatomaceous earth on the floor of the coop and in the nesting boxes. Then we put shavings in the coop so the hens can run in and lay their eggs. (They have access to four in that coop and they only use one)
Tomorrow we will tidy up the run and deworm the hens. We don’t have any worms that I can see but I like to do this just in case. Now we are all done!
