Hawk Circling!

You can make artificial hawk shelters. Not difficult. They need several places in the yard to duck and cover. I have six. You need some kind of roof and four post to hold the roof up and bottom supports to stabilize it. Or, my chicken loves a bench they can sit on top of or duck under it. Plastic patio table works also. I have planted raspberries that next year will be thick enough for them to hide in. And enough raspberries for the chickens and myself. This doesn't work so well with birds that are not heritage breeds.

Alright thanks for the info! I’ll plant more bushes around the fence. Maybe make a decorative bench went I put in the garden.

The bench should have a solid seat not one with lathes so they can truly hide under it. Also check trash day for a bench, what ever you get them they will poop on it.

Now to the hawk, i had a similar problem with a pair of red-tail hawks and my ducks. I even lost a drake.
To make circling over my property uncomfortable for the hawks, i took a larger mirror (about twice legal paper-format) and tried to hit the circling birds with the sun's »death rays« as best as i could on sunny days. This will not harm the hawks at all, they just don't like to be dazzled and fly off pretty quickly. Do that on a regular basis and the hawks will start to avoid your area.
The second thing you can do is: Become best friends with the local murder of crows! I always put one or two handfuls of cracked corn outside - my ducks won't eat it, but the crows do and hang around my house a lot. And they do harass hawks of any size! And they also warn your chickens if there's a hawk around.

Whoops, sorry about that! I’m bad at understanding the website. Thanks for the info, I’ll order one right away. What’s good is the hawks haven’t made their debuts as much lately... Do you know anything about turkey vultures? There’s a flock of seven that like to hang out over the property in addition to the hawks. If not, I’ll just repost on the correct page (so sure I had)

I know turkey vultures, we call them buzzards. They don't bother living things only if it is laying dead. I just moved in this house in April. I was wondering why I had so many buzzards flying over my house. Well, we have a cell phone tower up the road and they use it to perch on and survey the area. My birds first ran and hide. Now they are use to them and can differentiate them from hawks.
