You could use some more information in your article and could run your own tests try to prove your method works. For example, test 12 eggs, and say you deem two dead via your float test. Mark those two and put them back in the incubator to show us.

I don't know how it can be deadly, except to raise the humidity of the egg and make it easier for the chick to get out.
In my many years of practice, I have never had a problem - nor have all my grower friends who do the same procedure
