[FONT=comic sans ms,sand]Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! I am new at this latest adventure of raising our very own backyard flock of chickens & am so looking forward to learning all this neat stuff on this site![/FONT]
We currently have 21 chicks of various breeds: 5 Australorps, 6 New Hampshire Reds, 5 Red Sex Links,4 Buckeyes & 1 lone Buff Orpington. They are 9 weeks old & I must say that it has been a fun journey so far!
My DH built a hen house, complete with roosts & nesting boxes that is 8' x 12' & is currently working on another coop that should be 24' x 20' when complete. The runs for each will be 20' x 20'because we can't free range due to the dreaded mongoose population here. Those critters will dig under, crawl over everything! So needless to say our runs will be roofed & wired, as well!
