Katie's Coop - Fernwood Hollow

I love this! I have also considered modifying a greenhouse kit, but hadn't thought to use hardware cloth to replace so much of the glazing. I appreciate the progress pictures and mentions of needed structural improvements. I look forward to an update on how it's doing this winter as I live a bit farther north.

The roof handled 3 ft of snowfall last weekend with no problems at all! And the greenhouse effect during the day has been super helpful it was -10° F last night and as soon as the sun hit the roof this morning it's now 34° inside the coop which is fantastic for the winter and in the warm weather I put white tarps over the roof panels to negate the greenhouse effect so it doesn't get super hot in there in the summer. Structurally it has been amazing through all of the snow, we don't get a ton of super crazy wind here but it's done very well in the snow and extreme cold. I do have plastic clear tarps over the hardware cloth sections right now to help with the wind but I'm very very happy with it! I've also had a bobcat try and fail three times to get in and I think it's given up it hasn't come back. Since posting this article I did add extra hardware cloth along the A line of the roof where the ventilation was even though my gaps were only two inches wide I scared myself about weasels and super hardware cloth every little Gap just in case haha
I love that you posted this because I've also considered modifying a greenhouse kit. Really appreciate the extra details and video. I'm curious to see how it holds up in the long run, so please keep the article updated!

Thank you! Feel free to message me if you have any questions on modifications I did and things I wish I did differently etc! And yes so far its holding up excellent and its been pretty battered by the snow and wind so far this winter! Will definitely update it down the line!

Neat idea! It looks like it works well. Nice updates on the process.
Looks like a nice coop made from a greenhouse kit. Some photos taken while it was being built would have been a nice addition to the article as well as approximate cost.

Hi, your coop is beautiful and looks like it works great for you and the chickens. You gave a good description and details in it too. Great job!

Hello, sorry about that I didnt see instructions listed/posted anywhere on what was supposed to be included in this, just that I should post an article about the coop to complete my profile. Ill make some edits!
