Hello anyone viewing this page!
My husband and I are new to keeping chickens. We are now living on two acres of land in the middle of northern Indiana. After much pleading I finally broke him down and he let me by 6 chickens

Aren't they cute!! They were so cute we started planning a big chicken coop. We did some chicken math and discovered that we can have more chickens. As they started to get biger I couldn't wait to get some new ones.

This is when we decided that we had room for 8 more chickens. So we bought more chickens

. We now have 3 RIR, 3 NHR, 3 buff orpingtons, 3 barred rocks, and 2 black star sex linked.

The problem was we just had one brooder and the chickens aren't close enough in size yet for the chicks to be together so we added a see through barrier so that they can get used to each other without the pecking. Since then we have raised the bottom of the divider up just enough that the little ones can go under but the big ones can't. This way they can interact and the little ones can run to safety. This seems to be working very well except last night I found 3 of my older ones in with the younger bunch. I don't know how that happened bacause I know they can get under the divider, even laying down they are too tall. I watched them for a while and they were just all sleeping together. There has been no serious pecking (no injuries) so far and I am hoping things continue to go smoothly.

Now all that is left is to finish the chicken coop. Unfortunately we are not very far along on that. We will hopefully get it done just in time for all 14 of the chicks to go outside. I don't know if that will happen. We have had rain 6 out of the last 7 days and they are calling for more the rest of the week. At least I can rest easy knowing that even with flood warnings and massive amounts of rain my ladies and thier coop will still be on high enough ground. (this was a real concern becasue this land used to be marsh).
