I show chickens for 4-H this was my 5th year showing chickens. My second year showing chickens I won Grand Champion Poultry at the county fair with a Barred Plymouth Rock hen. I showed some bantams next year and my Rhode Island Red cockerel won Grand Champion Poultry at the county fair and placed in the top 5 in his class at the SD State Fair. But sadly that spring he died
My 4th year showing I got a whole bunch of breeds I have never heard of like the Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner and I showed all of the new breeds. This year I got bantams from someone by Sioux Falls SD and my Partridge Wyandotte cockerel won Grand Champion Poultry at the county fair so I took him and a Rhode Island Red cockerel and 2 Partridge Wyandotte pullets. They all got purple ribbons but my Rhode Island Red cockerel won his class so he got to go in for Overall Champion Bantam which he won so he got to go in the final round and he won Overall Grand Champion Poultry for 4-H at the SD state fair. I sold him to the breeder I got him from so I could get his chicks next spring because I have only 1 Rhode Island Red pullet to breed to him and I am not set up for breeding at all.
I left home with 5 chickens for state fair(4 birds for 4-H and 1 bird for open class) and I came home with 5 chickens even after selling my Rhode Island Red. I got a white Cochin bantam male at the poultry auction at State Fair.
