So we recently had an adorable baby chick hatch. Sadly the only one out of the clutch. We had an unfortunate fully formed bomb egg, and baby was gone. However I currently have a chicken soap opera entitled these are the barns of how our eggs turn. Involving 3 roos, and two hens. This is the stories plot line.
Two hens, 3 roos two coops confusion. We had our light Sussex Icicle Frost go broody immediately after she started laying. Well both she and her coop sister, a white Leghorn named Ursla Seashell. Both started laying in the same clutch. To begin with Elvis or Barred Rock was in their coop, but we swapped him out for Friday Wednesday my EE mix. Occasionally my girls would slip over to the coop attached to theirs which has my Ayam Cemani mix roo Trouble Maker Pain In The Butt ( yes!! Thats his full name, he earned!) And I would scold them and put them back. Well back to the chick. I was attempting on getting the old eggs out, as she(Icicle) had been sitting on them forever. When low and behold out comes an ADORABLE lil black chick with bright orange legs and white spats. Now here is where I run into trouble. I tried to see which egg hatched. But could not see if it was a brown egg or white egg. And we removed Ursla because I was afraid she would hurt the baby as it appeared like she tried to peck her. Now I THINK Elvis is the daddy. As the baby has his colored legs. And daddy number 1, my EE has white legs, and Trouble my Ayam Cemani has black legs. And both possible mommy's have white legs (so that's no help!) Now ELVIS thinks the baby is his, after Icicle let him have visitation through the fence. But Friday is positive Chicken Tender is his ( oh yeah that's her name) and during visitation FRIDAY WAS LIVID! So who do you believe my sweet Chicken Tender belongs to? Daddy #1 Friday Wednesday daddy #2 Elvis or Daddy #3 Trouble
And who's the mommy the hatcher Icicle Frost or the side kick Ursla Seashell?
Here are some pics of the possible parents, and the visitation with Elvis where you can clearly see how mad Friday is. And the excited step mom banana pudding (my RIR hen) are.
