Like most (if not all) of you, nothing can describe my happiness when I first got my chickens. They were 7 weeks old (if my memory serves me right). I am always excited to go home to see and spend time with them. They serve as my pet, my babies, my stress relievers.
Time did fly so fast and they are over 20 weeks now and I am getting 2-3 eggs a day. I will never get tired of cleaning their coop, filling up their feeder and waterer and of course collecting their eggs!!!
They have different personalities which make them more lovable.
So here are my three girls:
This Vanilla, my buff orpington:
Her favorite food is Watermelon. She is very docile, quiet, and sweet.
I really love her golden feathers... But what i love the most is her fluffy butt!
She does not like to lay her eggs inside the nest box. As a matter of fact, I caught her laying her egg this morning. As you can see, the egg is shiny because it is still wet. Photo was taken less than 5 seconds after it was laid.
This is her few minutes after laying her egg, waiting for some treats! "hey i just laid an egg, where's my reward?"
Second hen is Snow, she is a splash orpington
She is the loudest, most skittish, not very friendly with the other chicks but she is very pretty, huge, and heavy.
She likes to lay her eggs inside someone else's nest
"i want to lay here and you guess which one is my egg"
My third hen is Matcha, she is a Mixed Wyandotte, RIR, and probably australorp.
She is docile but sometimes shy. She is very huge and heavy. She eats anything!!!
She is a very quiet hen. She does not sing the egg song. She just goes inside the box, lays her egg, then gets out. That's how quiet she is.
She patiently lays her egg EVERYDAY! Yes, she is a consistent layer.
She shares her nest with Snow
Or sometimes, she gives way and lets Snow finish first.
They get along pretty well but I don't know who is the Alpha hen. Snow pecks on Matcha, Matcha pecks on Vanilla, and Vanilla pecks on Snow. I think that kind of pecking order is working really well for them.
