I started this year with 3 hens. They laid nearly every day through the winter (2 Rhode Island reds and one marans) and once it warmed up they all 3 stopped, or what I assumed was they decided to start laying in the woods since they free roam. I'd moved their coop bc we had heavy rains for a while and i needed to get them on higher ground so I thought maybe that stressed them out and they felt safer laying in the woods. Well lately I've noticed some weird poos from time to time from one of my hens, not positive which one but I'm suspecting maple, one of my reds. She randomly looks like she's panting even when it's not hot but otherwise acts normal. So now I'm wondering if its worms, maybe that's why they haven't laid any eggs. Well we now have 9 6 week old chicks which I've worked hard to keep separated from the hens bc I know they can get them sick bc the little ones are still vulnerable but also my hens would peck them to death for sure. This morning I noticed a few red poops in the little chicks pen. I put them in water to see if they were wormy and I can't tell for sure, I mean I did let them have a tomato the other day, could they pass that? The hens had gotten into the chicks pen when I left it open one day last week, after I put the babies in their coop for bed time and now I'm worried about them being contaminated. I've been sprinkling both runs with permethrin and DE in bedding and keeping things cleaned once a week and I just ordered flubenol but can I treat the chicks with it? I give garlic from time to time, especially this morning. Please tell me this isnt gape worms! These came from the chicks run.
