Hi everyone! I'm Angela and I live in Mississippi. I never ever thought I would ever have chickens, much less get attached to them.

Last spring my second grader came in from school very excited. Her class was going to hatch some baby chicks. My little one loved the adventure and came home every day telling about the eggs, how they hatched and then the baby chicks. Then she came home and said her teacher said that every child could take one home if the parents approved. I told my daughter to go ask her dad, KNOWING that he would say no. Well surprise surprise! He didn't say no. So we became the proud parents of a baby chick. We got a second one to keep her company.

Then disaster occured. We had started letting them out in the back yard when the weather warmed up. They were outside in their box getting some sun. Hubby was mowing, so he moved the box under the carport. When I came home from work, I was devasted by what I saw. Hubby had forgotten he left them out there and our border collie killed them. I don't know who cried harder, me or my daughter.

The next day I did the totally wrong thing. I went to the feed store and bought two baby chicks. I was determined to keep them safe and I'm proud to say that I did. They are now grown and giving us eggs. Even hubby has gotten attached to them and enjoys watching them. A couple of months ago, he brought home a little roo, I'd say a little over half grown. I felt so sorry for the poor thing. The girls were so mean to him. He gave new meaning to the term "hen pecked". But it didn't take long for him to grow and develope a backbone. He's now at the top of the pecking order.

They are so dear to me. Such wonderful pets. I never know what the next day will bring.
