The Amazing Midnight

We got Midnight a long time ago, I think it was 2017. Someone that we knew had passed away and her chickens needed a home. So we volunteered. There were a few EEs, an Orpington, an SS, some Wyandottes, even a Duckwing rooster and a lot of hybrids. Midnight was one of those. Now at the time, I hadn't known that chickens could be bantam so I'd thought that she was a little chick and needed to be put with the baby Orpington and SS. But when she started beating them up we had to remove her.View attachment 4030898
We did our research and figured out that she was some kind of bantam. I couldn't tell what she was mixed with though. It almost looks like some kind of Cornish thing but I'm really not sure. But anyway, we took her out where she proceeded to live her normal life for about two years. Then we decided to move and we trucked all 40 chickens to the new house. Midnight just went back to normal life there, hanging with her friends and exploring the new yard.View attachment 4031003
She had a big personality and was very vocal. She occasionally layed tiny little white eggs. She got broody for a period of time, but we never let her hatch. Once, she even hopped over the fence and came up to the back patio to beg for treats. When Christmas rolled around she got a nice set of chicken hats and scarves. She hated them with a passion. She made friends with the cat and they even ventured off into the woods together. A year of adventure passed, and soon Midnight got older. We hadn't known her original age whenever we took her in but she was probably around three. Eventually, I went into the coop one day and found her lying peacefully in a nesting box. We gave her a little funeral and to this day I still sometimes go outside to visit her. The cute little chicken that brought so much joy into my life.
