My five roos apparently ganged up on a possum last week and kicked it out of the barn...where it promptly waddled into traffic and got run over.
Went out early in the morning to re-fill the waterer. The waterer was completely dry, as it had been really hot the day before and most of the water just evaporated. Also re-filled the feeder. Normally, they all come down from their roosts to eat, drink, look for treats whenever I come in, but not this time. I heard something rattling around the barn, but we have chipmunks in the barn, so I didn't think anything of it really. One roo got off his perch and crowed repeatedly and danced around at the section of their room that has a loose board, and he escorted his favorite girl to the waterer. Went back inside and back to sleep, figuring the crazy chickens would eat when they made up their fool minds to eat.
When I got up again, there was a dead possum squashed in the middle of the road and all the chickens acting normal. Loose board was slightly out of place. Today, I found bits of possum fur and skin in the bottom of the pine shavings where they had made a dust bath. EEEEEEEUUUUUWWW.
On the plus side, apparently my roos are absolutely ferocious buggers who will not be crossed.
