My pullets just turned 18 weeks old and since I got my first egg yesterday it is time to switch to Layena. My problem is that one of my birds turned out to be a roo. Is it safe for him to eat Layena with the other birds, or is the calcium going to be too much for him?

I'm planning to do a finisher with oyster shell free choice so my hens get what they need and the roos don't get what they don't

I checked with the folks at Purina when I wanted to switch to Layena. They told me it was fine for the roosters to eat it.

It's not perfectly ideal because he doesn't need the calcium, but I don't think it'll hurt him.

I like using chick starter in the winter with oyster shell avaliable free choice. But I've had the adult boys on layer before, the oldest rooster is now 5 years old and he hasn't seemed to be adversly effected by it.

It's different with chicks because they grow so fast, they process it differently.
