I've seen several posts about using Ivermec to worm goats.

I picked some up yesterday of the pour on type but I'm not sure how much to use or how to use it.

Do you pour it all over them like a lye dip or is it more like a dog w/flea spot treatment and goes between their shoulders???

I'm not really sure how much they weigh and the feed store didn't have a goat tape. I would guess that they weigh between 40 and 70 pounds.

Any help you all can provide would be appreciated.

with pour on wormer I give 1 cc per 10 lbs of goat, so if the goat weughts 40 lbs they get 4 cc's of wormer in a syringe orally. I dont pour it on as it can burn the sking and cause hair loss. I also use a paste wormer for tapeworms. I worm and then 10 days later worm again and then in 10 days use the paste wormer. Then your done for about 3 mths or until you notice that their eyelids when you pull them down are not bubble gum pink.
Good luck and have fun
I get wormer each time I worm mine...lol...

Thanks a bunch.... They need it bad.... I'll get some paste as well.... growing up my goat would spit the paste out so I wasn't keen on going thru that again....

I use the topical according to package directions (mine is 1 cc per 22 lbs). From experience (and I don't know why) the only goats that have been burned by it are my black goats. They get a crusty irritation where it was applied (between the shoulders). I've heard stories of goats loosing all their hair from it, but have never had that experience here. So, all my black base goats get theirs orally. The one I do avoid topically is Eprinex...which I've heard too many stories of hair loss and skin irritation about.

Sounds like you need to drench further back in the throat with the paste. From back there, they can't spit it out

I dont have any problems with giving it orally and I have 1 that wants more each time we worm...I think he is a addict and just loves anything...Yep get the paste wormer tube farther back ...I get the type that tastes like apple also...

Thanks for the info.... I'll try it topically this time and in a couple of weeks do it orally then use the paste.... I've seen some nits on the buck as well... at least I think their nits.. he's a bit skitish since he was from one home to another to another within a short time frame prior to me getting him..... he does let me pet him when I hand feed him so I've been trying to figure out what's on his spine hairs and to me they look like the nits did on my neice when she had lice....

I thought the Sweet PDZ would help with them...

It is probably just unshed down...but who knows. The ivermec will kill any lice if he does have them.

Sweet PDZ is strictly for ammonia/odor control. It won't help with parasites.

If you worm them it will treat the lice like Kate said but you also need to treat their shed/barn and bedding with either seven dust as what I use or Diatanimous earth but make sure they cant lay right on it. Good luck...
