Well, my chickens are going to be famous! i had been trying to set up a time to take them in to be vaccinated for Fowl Pox. My vet, Dr. Jyl, occasionally appears on a local morning news show demonstrating various animals and treatments. So they asked if i wanted to have my chickens on tv while they got vaccinated. i said "Why not".

So tomorrow, December 22nd, i will awake in predawn hours and wrangle 26 sleepy chickens into carriers and trek to my vet's office. Channel 31 News will be there filming live. They are a local Sacramento, California station. My understanding is that this will be shown between the hours of 7-8am.

i'm going to be nice and try to get my chickens to come out and perform their morning constitutional before putting them into carriers. But i have four broodies and may not have time for them. i'm sure Channel 31 News has no idea what happens when you pull a broody off her nest, after she's been sitting there over 12 hours.

i will do my best to get in a good word for BYC forum, although they may not want to talk to me, just my chickens. Too bad i don't have a teeny BYC t-shirt to put on one of them.

i plan on recording it on our cable DVR box. Not sure how to get that onto a format to put on youtube. Have to get my hubby to figure that one out.

i'm SO excited!

Good luck! Make sure you give them a good pep talk before going on camera!

Well, i'm back. They did a couple clips of the reporter trying to carry Carmen (my silkie, japanese, polish, mille fleur mix) into the examining room. Then Carmen saw a cat sitting on the table and took off flying. They finally caught Carmen, removed the cat, and gave her the injection. Then she got a worm.

Then there was a shot of him poking my broody showgirls. Then he spent a lot of time visiting with the vet's pet pig. i think they made a real connection.

The next segment made it onto their website, and here it is. Dr. Jyl did a plug for backyard chickens, but said "backyardchicken.com" omitting the "s". Oh well.

i am exhausted!

Ohh that is totally AWESOME. I wish I could have my chickens on t.v. My NHR named Nosey Rosey (She is very mischevious, hence the name) would eat the mealworms .362 seconds after getting vaccinated.

Congrats and Merry Christmas,

Cody!!

P.S. I wonder what site comes up if you type in the address backyardchicken.com?
