Two roosters of mine have really long spurs , can i snip them back , are they like a toenail with a quick?? Thanks for any suggestions

They will bleed if you snip too much off. I use a dog nail clipper and just take off like an inch or so. Just enough to take the point off. They grow back pretty quick so you will have to keep trimming them

even if there like 3-4 inches long??? i never noticed until other day , cuz ive had to catch them to put vaseline on there combs and waddles, looks to me life if they got them hung on something that would really hurt.....I have the pedi paws tool LOL reckon i could file them down some
On the spurs get a pair of pliers and grab hold of the spur half way down and twist and the spur will pop right off about 1/2 inch. The spur is like a cap and it comes off pretty easy.

is there something wrong with allowing the spur to grow out to its natural length? though we don't encounter very many predators, i feel safer knowing my ahki has his full grown spurs just in case...

Well i was just wondering, to me they look painful that long, i was just thinking when my toe nails get to long they hurt hahaha.....but i will try the method of twisting them off, also i worry they might hurt my girls , if i have time tomorrow ill take photos, honestly i had NO idea they got that long
