My chickens look bored i put alot of dirt in their pen so they can scratch around but they still look bored....

Please give me some ideas of some things chickens like

They enjoy long walks on the beach, movies, dancing the night away, and talking on the phone with friends...and who doesn't enjoy a good game of scrabble!

I take some of my greens from the garden and hang them up in the run. They seem to enjoy the extra bit of work.
 
I cut the watermelon in half (usually over 6 lbs), took the inside out for us to eat, then I put the watermelon skin in the pen. When I got home late in the day, what left is the size of a chocolate cookie.

If your situation allows you to let them free range even a few hours a day; that is the best cure for boredom that I have found.:)If you can't,a head of cabbage hung in the run will keep them busy for hours.
 
I take a cordless drill and make a hole in the stem and push a string thru the hole. You could probably make a hole with a ice pick.
Sometimes it's easier if you peel off a few leaves first to give you more stem to work with. My, the things we do for these birds!!!

I have used a tub of frozen veggie stew to keep them busy for hours. May not be good if your in a frozen area now, it was spring when I did it. Also I have gone to the bait shop and bought a big container of crickets for them to chase and hunt. Big steamed broccoli heads tied to a string and drug around (cold of course).
In the spring and summer you would be hard pressed to find a bug in my yard at any given time but go out side of the fence on the back field in the summer and there are a million grass hoppers. I am probably one of the few people within 40 miles that would take my chickens out for daily grasshopper killing walks 2 or 3 at a time for hours on end on the weekends until everyone had their chance of getting their fill.
