BYC’ville Quilt Block Swap

This swap is limited to 20 swappers.
Signups will end when all 20 slots have been taken.
Blocks are due to me no later than May 29, 2009 Date was extended to give everyone enough time to get done with complicated blocks.

This BYCville Town quilt will consist of blocks comprising a town.

I am including some links for some patterns. You are free to find your own pattern for the building you choose, as well. These links are just to help. The fabrics you use to make the block are your choice completely. The fabrics MUST be 100% top quality cotton quilting type fabrics, pre-washed before making the blocks. Blocks are to be 12.5 inches unfinished. There are a couple of the patterns that don’t make up a 12.5 block, but could easily have fabric added to make the block the 12.5 size

Here are the blocks involved and number of slots available for each block.

Post Office Block – 1
No pattern. I am taking this block. I am going to have to get creative with some of the other buildings to create the Post Office.

School – 1

General Store/Mercantile - 1
No pattern that I have seen. The maker will need to get creative using the school or house block and modify into a store.

Church – 2

You will make 20 of the same block that you choose. You are free to use different fabrics with the blocks, though. You decide if you want the buildings to look realistic, traditional, funky….that’s your choice.

You will send 19 blocks to me to swap and keep 1 for yourself.

If you choose to appliqué, please no iron on appliqué. Edges must be turned under and sewn down.

Mailing Guidelines:
Here is a step by step guide.
1. After your blocks are complete, put some type of label on each one, so swappers know you made the block. They can be in individual baggies, but it is not required.
2. Go to the Post Office and get 2 of the large Tyvek (plasticy-paper) Priority Mail envelopes. They are free. They are waterproof and nearly indestructable. Please don't use boxes to ship your blocks. They make your package weigh more and cost more to ship.
3. Address one of the Tyvek envelopes to ME (I will email my address to everyone at the end of signups) with YOUR return address.
4. Address the second Tyvek envelope to YOURSELF with YOUR return address.
5. Place all of your completed blocks into the Tyvek envelope addressed to ME and also include the Tyvek envelope addressed to YOURSELF.
6. Do NOT seal the package yet!
7. Take your package to the Post Office and have it weighed to mail to ME. ALSO purchase postage for the SAME AMOUNT as to mail to me and put that SAME AMOUNT of postage on the Tyvek envelope that is addressed back to YOU. (Example: Say it costs $5.34 to ship the package to me. You will also purchase stamps in the amount of $5.34 and place them on the envelope INSIDE the package that will be RETURNING TO YOU. So your total postage spent at the post office would be $10.68. After you have put the return postage stamps on the envelope inside the package, mail your package to me.

Labels: On each block, please include some type of label (I use sticky address labels I print on the computer) with your BYC name, real name and email address. Some swappers like to keep this information with their quilt log.

HAVE FUN and USE YOUR IMAGINATION!

Edited because I figured the answer to the dumb question I asked, lol!!! The chicken block is adorable but I think all of these are too hard for me so I guess I pass and will wait for a simple 9-patch swap. Can't wait to see what these look like though

SE you don't have to use the blocks I used links for, they are just for examples.

They are not all to hard for you. That easy house pattern I KNOW you could do. Felicity is going to do that, if we end up having a space available in the end for her.

Here's a quilt book with chickens....funny ones, but still chickens.

Here's some more fun things I just found to share while searching for patterns.

I have noted on one of the chicken patterns and one of the house patterns which are pretty easy. Remember though, you are free to search around for other patterns to use, as well. ;-)

Glad I've finally got someone biting!
