I was candling my eggs (which are fertile!
) and I noticed that the candler got really really hot, and it warmed up the eggs noticeably too. So I stuck it under a thermometer and it went up to 120F (it was still going up, but I was afraid the thermometer might break so I took it off)! One of the eggs, the most lively little baby
, was under the light for a while (less than a minute). Do you think he'll be ok? Or could I have burnt him, or worse, killed him? I'll be candling quicker from now on, but I'm worried that I might have hurt those eggs.
Also, I candled another egg that had a clear, dark, thick ring all the way around it. It wasn't solid all the way through, but more like dots concentrated together to form a ring. I thought perhaps it was very synchronized bacteria and that the chick was surely dead, but then I saw the embryo move and wiggle (for sure it was the embryo, I wasn't moving the egg at all). I was considering cracking it open! I suspect that it will die within the next few days, but has anyone else had a blood ring like this, with a living chick inside?
Ok, edited to add a picture of the egg in question. The picture isn't that great, the ring is actually very dark and not as blotchy. There are still a few visable veins, but not as many as yesterday. But... it's still moving.
Also, the date on the egg is not the date it's due to hatch! LOL. Is it still viable? Why hasn't it hatched yet?
That is the date that it was laid by little miss Fiyona. It is due to hatch on the 5th.
